is it possible to repair windows XP without sighted help? I'm waiting on a call from dell to walk me through the steps, and my roommates are rather unreliable to read anything on the screen.

When you say "repair", what do you mean?
If you mean by the "repair" option on the cd, you can already do that with your screen reader, provided you have the media.
Its a matter of selecting the radio box.
If you mean the "repair" without booting in to windows, that may be a little tricky.
Check out this link for step by step instructions.
Hope it helps.

I never bother with repairing windows honestly.
I rely on images to return my computers to get back to "normal" state.
If worse comes to worse, I do a total new reinstall, but that is the last resort.

I went ahead with the repair and it didn't work. It still crashed into a blue wall.

So you are unable to boot in to windows
hmm, my initial thought is that the ntldr or the config.sys files have been corrupted or deleted.
You can try using the recovery console by hitting r during cd spin up and follow the direction to launch the recover.mmc file. Then you can try copy xxi386ntldr c:

If you have data you wish to save, I highly suggest you back it up by placing the hd in to an enclosure or doc and use your laptop to back up the important data. Then do a full clean reinstallation of windows.
Sorry, I am unable to help much in this respect.

I don't have a way of backing up my data but I think I can download most of it back. I hope reformatting works.

Not only did I had to reformat, but the CPU and fan had to be replaced. It doesn't have that overheating problem anymore. Now I'm having a little issue with jaws which is in another topic.
